This is not theory. There was and is a unitarian influence in modern historical critical study of the NT that also appears in the textual criticism. Metzger's summation of the majority here is clear evidence of this. Even Metzger concedes that there is no patristic evidence for this modern rendering of Rom 9:5. I think you are naive, if you think this is just a matter of intellectual curiosity.Jeffrey T. The NET Bible, version 2, has the traditional reading in the text with a long footnote explaining the punctuation issue and it is certainly a ‘modern’ translation Romans 9: 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from them, by human descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever!
